The rise and fall of the phat hair
From the feedback of my web site, this seems to be most people's favorite part of the web site. People are begging for more hair stuff, so here you go. Most of you viewing this web site never really knew me when I had the big hair, so seeing it on this web site is a little confusing to you. Here's a spot that will give you a little history of the hair.
1978 - Phatkev was born with a little bit of baby hair. Never a bald baby but did have the cute little curls.

1979-1980 - My hair remained curly. Look how cute I was. I certainly got a lot of sun back then.
1980-1986 - Wow, the hair suddenly straightened out and was blonde!
1987-1989 - Uh, oh. What's happening to my hair? It's starting to get curly. Can't have this. Believe it or not, I started blowdrying it straight. Yeah, I can't believe it myself.
1989-1991 - Now my hair is definitely curly but completely masked by everything I could to make it straight. Hey, I was an adolescent in middle school and just wanted to fit in. Everyone does at that age. I was not a fan of the phat hair, to say the least.

1991-1995 - Oh yes! High school is here and that means that we can wear hats! I was thrilled because my hair was no longer of concern to me. Besides the few classes that made me take off my hat (which I believe is an outdated puritan or odd Christian custom that is completely inappropriate to impose on students in public schools...what if I wanted to keep my head covered all the time for my own personal religious reasons?). Either way, I was content with hiding the hair.

1995-1996 - Moshe, Joel, and I decided to grow our hair long for the year together as a group. What fun! It wasn't until that infamous day in 1996 that I took off my hat voluntarily at school and let my curls shine! That brought you to the "phat" hairstyle you have grown to know and love on this web site.

Spring 1996 - I won BEST HAIR for my class. Wow, how far I've come from the shy kid who hated his hair to the phat individual with big, proud hair, validated by my peers. Check that pic out on the left! That's Tracy Slater who won best hair for the girls.
Summer 1996 - While on my Israel trip, I was immediately recognized as being the guy with the big hair. That was cool. For one time in my life I was known as being a "cool" kid. For those of you who have never been to Israel, let me tell you that it is a very hot place. Especially in July and August, the two months I was there. So, I decided that now would be as good a time as ever to take the plunge and shave it. Here are the pics from that infamous night.

Ok, I'm really going to do it. I can't show my face. I'm very scared right now. Will it be like Sampson?

NO!!! I take it back!! Stop! I want my hair!!! It burns!

First picture taken with the new finished hairstyle. It feels so comfortable. I couldn't sleep the night before because I was so busy rubbing my head. I was born with more hair than this!

1996-1998: Started growing my hair a little bit more when I was in college, but only made it to the length of the "evil look." Went to Europe and shaved it again. Actually, this picture is from 2000 but it's the same style.

2000: Had a period of time where I thought that I could grow my hair out again (look left). During that phase, I was able to get the bally look (on the right). Unfortunately, I quickly realized that there was an awkward phase that I couldn't deal with. So I caved and cut it again for the evil look. I have the same expression in my face in both pictures.
2000-2004: Alternated between the shaved and evil look but med school just demanded a shaved head due to the time restraints.
What an adventure! Keep watching for updates because this hair is difficult to tame. I just hope that I have it for a long time.
