"I think I'll go watch a moooooooovie."
I'm a film buff, but I can be particular with my movies. Here's a list, in no particular order of the ones I love. I've included all sorts of genres, even though I understand that it's tough to compare The Godfather to Austin Powers. Hey, it's my web site.
Below it, I've got the movies that I did not care for.
LIKES
Dramas
The Godfather - quite possibly a perfect movie
Charlie Kauffman movies (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) - these movies have a way of combining fantasy with reality in a believable way and touch upon many interesting societal issues.
Back to the future series - 1.21 gigwatts of fun.
Kevin Smith movies - (mainly Chasing Amy and Dogma) - I love a great dialogue in a script and he certainly provides one. He proves that you can make a great movie with little budget and a strong script.
In America - such a touching picture that was incredibly done.
South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut - this is one of my favorite movies by far. It successfully satirized numerous societal issues including violence and language on television, with a hilarious script, and wonderful music ("Blame Canada" was nominated for an Academy Award). Even if you don't like the series, you can at least appreciate the complexity of this movie.
Amalie - foreign film with amazing cinematography.
Lord of the Rings series - simply masterpieces
Punch Drunk Love
Goodfellas
Chicago
American Beauty
A Beautiful Mind - even though I dislike Russell Crow, he's a wonderful actor.
Big Fish
Comedies
Austin Powers 1 & 2 - there's something about Mike Myers that makes me always laugh.
Empire Strikes Back - by far the best one of the Star Wars series and I still love it every time I see it.
Pee Wee's Big Adventure - one of Tim Burton's first films, which was fantastically made depicting this man-child's adventure to find his bike. Still makes me laugh.
UHF - Weird Al's only movie, that was pretty popular when it came out, but has recently lost it's fame. You can see a very young, pre-Seinfeld Michael Richards in this movie, who really shows his talent.
Billy Madison
Shrek 2
Documentaries
Winged Migration - this documentary is about birds and their migration from the north to south. Sounds boring, right? WRONG! It is one of the most beautifully shot films I've ever seen. They raised the birds from birth and imprinted them not to be afraid of the cameras and they filmed them flying right next to the birds. The DVD's making of the movie is just as good as the actual movie.
Capturing the Freedmans
Spellbound

DISLIKES
Dummy - Adrian Brody's movie before The Pianist. Never heard of it? Can't imagine why. Maybe because it was wretchedly awful. If the academy knew about this film, they would take away his award. This was an anti-movie it was so bad. This is a story about a grown man (Brody) who lives with his parents and grown sister and finds that he can express himself through his marionette. But can he learn to be himself without the dummy? You guessed it. He did (miserably, I might add). He made the hot girl fall in love with him by taking her and his marionette shopping for clothes together while he sat in the child's seat of the shopping cart. This movie gave me nightmares.
Girl With a Pearl Earing - critically acclaimed, but for what? I just saw this movie and it's suckiness inspired me to make this web page. It was slow, boring, and didn't even really end.
Lost in Translation - why was this movie considered good? And it even won an Oscar for best screen play. Is that a joke? Funny how the first 2 movies on my list had Scarlett Johannson as the leading lady. She's got to find some better roles. I have not found 1 person who liked this movie. If you did, please email me and tell me what you liked about it.
Gangs of New York - another critically acclaimed movie that was wretched! You've got to be kidding me! I lost a lot of respect for Martin Scorsese as a director. That movie should have been at least 1 hour shorter. I was so happy that it didn't win the oscar.
Along Came Polly - I nearly walked out on this movie. It was incredibly unfunny. Every joke was nauseously predictable only using poor slap stick as their form of making people laugh. The character development was done poorly as each character was inconsistently developed. Jennifer Aniston just can't get past her Rachel Green character.
